The Big Boss (1941)
Two brothers, separated after the death of their sheriff father, choose to grow up on different sides of the law. Bob Dugan (John Litel, Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea) enforces the law first as a state senator, then as a governor, but loses track of his brother Frank after his disappearance into a life of crime. As Dugan moves up the political ladder, he is befriended by Jim Maloney (Otto Kruger, High Noon), a wealthy and powerful influence peddler who takes an interest in him, despite the fact that Bob is dedicated to his father’s code of upholding the law and not Maloney’s web of graft and bribes. But there’s more to Maloney than what appears, and Maloney’s past could destroy Bob’s future.
