A story about love, family and other embarrassments. Academy Award winner Shirley MacLaine stars with Marcello Mastroianni and Academy Award winners Jessica Tandy, Kathy Bates and Marcia Gay Harden in this offbeat romantic comedy about love found in the oddest of places by two Used People. "She got picked up at her own husband's funeral," screams Pearl's (MacLaine--Rumor Has It...) mother Frieda (Tandy--Driving Miss Daisy) when Joe Melandri (Mastrianni--La Dolce vita) tells the recent widow Pearl that he has loved her for years from afar. But these two people who unexpectedly find themselves in love, they must overcome the family dramas and neuroses of Pearl's mother, overweight daughter, Bibby (Bates--About Schmidt), and beautiful younger daughter, Norma (Harden--Pollock), who has so little self esteem that she assumes the identities of such people as Marilyn Monroe, Jackie Kennedy and Bonnie Parker.
