The Weight of the Nation for Kids (HBO)
HBO addresses the issue of childhood obesity in the three-part series The Weight of the Nation for Kids, HBO’s companion to its 2012 four-part, multi-platform documentary series, The Weight of the Nation. Developed in partnership with some of the world’s foremost health-research organizations, The Weight of the Nation spotlights the facts and myths of this crisis, showing how obesity affects the health of the nation and cripples the health care system – and The Weight of the Nation for Kids brings it down to (kid!) size, presented in a fun, family-friendly format. Incorporating interviews with young students as they make simple changes to their diets, school menus, or activities, the films reveal just how effective these kids are at bringing about bigger changes in their world – whether it’s students advocating for local, fresh produce as in Kebreeya’s Salad Days, trading in video-game sports for real-life sports in Quiz Ed!, or convincing school boards to provide healthier lunch options in The Great Cafeteria Takeover. Driven to improve themselves and their communities, the kids of The Weight of the Nation for Kids are an inspiration to those of all ages.
